Find Roanoke River Correctional Institution Releases

To find someone released from Roanoke River Correctional Institution, use the statewide corrections record rather than the Halifax County jail roster. This facility is a North Carolina state prison, so a valid release check follows the person's NCDAC status, movement history, actual release date, and any supervision that began after prison. A transfer to another prison is not a release. NC SAVAN can add custody notifications, while NCDAC records and facility contacts help resolve an unclear result or document an older event.

Roanoke River Release Path

Roanoke River Correctional Institution is a male medium and minimum custody state prison and reentry facility operated by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. It is not an annex of the Halifax County Detention Center. Its prisoner locations, movements, sentence history, release dates, and community-supervision entries belong in NCDAC Offender Public Information.

A person may leave the prison for the community at the end of the confinement portion of a sentence, sometimes followed by post-release supervision or legacy parole. The same person may instead move to another NCDAC institution. That location change ends custody at Roanoke River but does not end state imprisonment. Read the movement type and the statewide incarceration status before calling the event a release.

Important: A Roanoke River location change proves only departure from that facility. Confirm actual release and supervision in the individual NCDAC record.

Confirm Roanoke River Releases

The NCDAC Criminal Offender Searches gateway is the correct starting point. Its Offender Public Information system covers state prisoners, probationers, and parolees and contains history back to 1972. It does not contain county-jail records. An NCDAC offender number gives a stronger match than a name alone.

  1. Open Offender Public Information from the official NCDAC gateway. Search by offender number when it is known.
  2. When using a name, try supported legal or alias forms. Match the individual with age or birth information, sex, race, offense, and other displayed identifiers.
  3. Open the individual page. Read both Inmate Status and Probation, Parole, or Post Release Status.
  4. Review the Most Recent Incarceration Summary for incarceration status, current or prior location, last movement, and last movement date.
  5. Open sentence history. Look for Service Status, Sentence Status, Actual Release Date, minimum and maximum terms, and any parole entries.
  6. Confirm that the event is a release rather than a move to another prison. Record any active supervision that followed.

An actual release date, a release-type movement, and no active incarceration provide stronger proof than a search-result row alone. A current community-supervision status qualifies what came next. It means the person is outside prison but remains under state supervision. Final discharge from supervision is a later event and should not be merged with the prison exit.

Note: A projected date answers when release may occur; an actual release entry addresses whether the prison exit occurred.

Roanoke River Release Record Fields

NCDAC records can contain several layers for one person. The individual page is more useful than a summary row because multiple convictions, admissions, sentences, and supervision periods may appear. Use the offender number to keep those records tied to the correct person.

FieldHow to read it
Inmate StatusWhether the person remains in active state incarceration.
Current or previous locationWhether Roanoke River is current or part of movement history.
Last Movement and dateThe most recent change in facility or custody status.
Projected Release DateA forward estimate for an active term, not proof of release.
Actual Release DateThe recorded date for a completed incarceration episode.
Service or Sentence StatusWhether a sentence component is active or complete.
Supervision StatusWhether probation, parole, or post-release supervision is active after prison.

The dedicated NCDAC Inmate Releases interface is useful for discovery by release county, year, month, or last name. Results can show offender number, name, release date, primary offense, and release type. A row associated with Halifax is a state release record, not a release from the Halifax County jail. Verify the individual record before interpreting it.

On the research date, the release form also offered “Release County Not Reported” and “Released To Other State(s)” options. Its displayed years were a rolling set, not a legal retention promise. Observed result labels included “EXPIRATION” and “PAROLE/RETURN TO PAR.” Keep the database wording intact, then explain it through the individual's incarceration and supervision entries. Do not silently translate a coded type into unconditional community release.

Roanoke River Records and Contact

Facility staff can address current operational questions, but the statewide database and NCDAC records custodian are the proper paths for documenting an old prison release. Give the offender number, admission period, facility name, and the exact movement or release item needed. Ask for an existing record rather than a new explanation of the sentence.

Search Offender Public Information first. If the public record is unclear, use NCDAC Constituent Services and cite the offender number. A correctional photograph on the individual page belongs to the state correctional episode. It is not the Halifax County booking image.

Roanoke River Facility Profile

The official NCDAC facility profile identifies Roanoke River as a medium and minimum custody institution for men with a reentry role. Its published capacity is a facility figure, not a current population count and not a measure of releases.

Roanoke River Release History

Older records may identify the facility as Caledonia Correctional Institution. NCDAC announced the Roanoke River name change effective October 4, 2021. The site also has roots in North Carolina's late nineteenth-century prison-farm history, while the present institution has a stated reentry function. Both names can matter when locating older movements, records, or notices.

A historical reference to Caledonia does not indicate a different county jail. It remains part of the state prison history. Search by the person's NCDAC offender number, then use the facility name that appears for the relevant date. The statewide record is designed to bridge name changes and institution moves.

Halifax County has separately issued procurement material for a new county detention-center project. That project does not change Roanoke River's role as an NCDAC prison. It also does not justify redirecting a Roanoke River release search to the county jail. Each facility keeps its own custody path.

Note: Use “Caledonia Correctional Institution” as a historical search name, while keeping Roanoke River as the current official identity.

Roanoke River Release Notifications

NC SAVAN links North Carolina Adult Correction prison, probation, and parole with custody notifications. VINELink provides the online person search, and the telephone service is 1-877-627-2826. Search the correct person and agency, then register against the relevant NCDAC offender record. A county booking number is not a substitute for the state offender number.

Read the event exactly as sent. A transfer requires follow-up with the receiving institution and may require a new registration. A release event should still be checked against the NCDAC individual page. Notifications can occur outside business hours, but the service supplements agency verification rather than replacing it.

Registration can use an offered phone, text, email, or TTY channel. The live process may ask for a confidential PIN or another confirmation step. Protect that information. For a phone alert, the PIN can acknowledge receipt and stop repeat calls. Save the offender number with the registration so later agency checks stay tied to the same person.

Modern felony release commonly leads to post-release supervision under Article 84A. Parole mainly concerns offenses committed before October 1, 1994. Probation can begin without a prison term, so a probation entry does not by itself prove release from Roanoke River. Match the supervision type, start date, and prior incarceration episode.

Roanoke River Projected Release Dates

A projected release date is forward-looking. Sentence recalculation, jail credit, disciplinary credit changes, additional judgments, and Commission or court action can alter it. For a structured-sentencing felony, G.S. 15A-1340.13(d) requires service of the minimum term. Earned time may reduce the maximum but not below that minimum. North Carolina does not use a blanket state “85% rule.”

Record the exact projected or tentative label and its date context. Then return after that date and look for an actual release or movement entry. If a calculation needs authoritative review, contact NCDAC with the offender number instead of computing a date from a docket. A projection alone never confirms departure.

Roanoke River Releases and ICE

North Carolina G.S. 162-62 sets an ICE-detainer process for qualifying county prisoners. That local-jail statute should not be presented as the ordinary release rule for an NCDAC state-prison term at Roanoke River. If the individual record shows another agency or custody event, verify it through NCDAC and the named receiving custodian.

ICE's Online Detainee Locator addresses current immigration detention, not historical prison discharge. An absence there does not prove community release. No dedicated ICE facility was verified in Halifax County. Use the federal locator only when an actual NCDAC movement, agency record, or other official fact supports that custody path.

Roanoke River Release or Transfer

A current Roanoke River location means the person remains in state prison. A new NCDAC institution means transfer. An actual release date and release-type movement indicate departure from imprisonment, while an active post-release or parole status explains continued community supervision. Final discharge means the supervision episode has also ended.

For a broader custody-source comparison, the Halifax County released-inmate search separates county jail, state prison, court, federal, and immigration records. Keep the Roanoke River inquiry tied to NCDAC unless the official movement record names a new custodian.
